Title
Jamie Sprigens - a noted worthy of his time 1836
Description
A small Edinburgh man dressed in military uniform dances barefoot over two sticks which are placed in a cross shape on the ground. The man has one eye closed and holds both arms in the air. He has a hook in place of a left hand. He wears a cap on his head and there are large holes in his jacket and ragged trousers.

The poet, Donald Campbell has written a poem inspired by this character by Holt:

Jamie Sprigens

Jamie Sprigens loves to dance
as others love to sing
and anytime he gets the chance
he'll put down sticks for swords and prance
out the steps of the Highland Fling.
Despite his ragged circumstance
how Jamie Sprigens loves to dance...
Oh! Almost more than anything!
