A man stands behind the remains of the wall close to some planks of wood and whisky barrels from the blending house, Usher House, in the background. Prominent on the house are the two chimney stacks and a central ventilation flume.

The Pear Tree House on West Nicolson Street in Edinburgh is a popular pub with local students and residents. It was formerly one of the business premises of Andrew Usher & Co., distillers, the first company to produce a blended whisky.

West Nicholson Street is situated in the south of Edinburgh, to the east of George Square and the west of Nicholson Street.
