Accompanying text from the volume 'German Raid on Scarborough' reads, "The house of Mr. G.H. Merryweather, Prospect Road, whose wife was killed by the shell. Learning from her husband of the Germans' deadly work, she went to fetch some friends, intending with them to take refuge in the cellar. Together they reached the shop, when the shell hit the building, inflicting grievous hurt to her. She fell crying, "I am wounded." No one else was hit, though the others were standing near. She was immediately taken in a carriage to the doctor, but died on the way."
