Inverkeithing is situated roughly 10 miles south west of Edinburgh, across the Firth of Forth. The origins of the town date back possibly as far as a Roman settlement in the 1st century AD. The site was certainly inhabited by the 5th century. Buildings and structures of historic interest include the 14th century friary guesthouse which now houses Inverkeithing's museum, and the 15th century mercat cross, an historic focal point for commercial activity and town events.
