Empire Air Day was an annual public event first held on 24 May 1934. The last Empire Air Day was held on 20 May 1939.
Royal Air Force stations across the UK invited the public to see air shows. On 25 May 1935 Turnhouse received some 4000 visitors who were allowed access to the RAF base to see the daily working and also look around the aircraft on display.
