The view shows two large flat roofed buildings. One has an outdoor quarter turn staircase. The second building has an indoor straight staircase with a glass wall. There are many horizontal pivoting windows, some of which are open. The castle esplanade walls and a crane are in the background.

The Grassmarket is a central area situated below Edinburgh Castle. It has been the site of many public executions. A weekly market was held there from 1477 until 1911. The Grassmarket continues to be a popular area for socialising.
