St John's Episcopal Church
Description
At the west end of Princes Street in Edinburgh are two churches. The first St Johns Episcopal Church is distinguishable by its square tower and its many buttresses, the second St Cuthbert's sits behind and has a spire on its clock tower. In front of St John's there is a drinking trough, which a horse pulling a carriage drinks from. The buildings of Edinburgh Castle are visible on Castle Rock in the distance.

Location
Edinburgh and Scottish Collection
St John's Church, situated at the West End of Princes Street in Edinburgh, was built between 1816-18. It was designed by William Burn in the Perpendicular Gothic style. Its location was controversial, and in 1816 an Act was passed to prevent any further building on the north side of Princes Street, thus preserving the residents' view of the Castle.
