Title
View northwest from Edinburgh Castle
Description
A hazy view of Edinburgh's west end taken from Edinburgh Castle. In the foreground is St Cuthbert's Church and graveyard. It has a tall spire at one end and twin domes at the other. Behind it stands another church; the gothic inspired St John's with its square tower. The shops and houses of Princes Street lie beyond the churches, many of which have white awnings protecting their window displays. The long building to the left with a series of pitched roofs is Princes Street Station (now the Caledonian Hotel).
