The artist Walter Geikie was born in Edinburgh in 1895. Following an illness in the second year of his life he became deaf and dumb. Today he is remembered principally for his etchings. A collection of these were published in the volume 'Etchings Illustrative of Scottish Character and Scenery' in 1841, four years after his death.
