Description
A portrait photograph of Mrs Childs who is seated with her hands in her lap. She is wearing outdoor clothes comprising a dark velvet coat with lace panels at the cuffs, leather gloves and a velvet hat with a large ostrich feather. She has a white blouse that is fastened at the neck with a large round brooch in the shape of a cross and is also wearing earrings.

Photograph taken on the 25th September 1866 of Mrs Childs of London. Mr Doull also took a portrait of her husband.
David Doull was a professional photographer at 72 Lauriston Place from 1865 - 1867. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831 and was one of the founder members of the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. In 1970 Edinburgh Public Libraries purchased Mr Doull's collection of 319 glass negatives from Mr Frank Seymour, one in a chain of successors to Mr Doull's shop at Lauriston Place.
