Description
Portrait photograph of the Misses Mackay who are standing against wooden fences in a photographer's studio. Both are wearing the Victorian costume of day dress and coat. One jacket has blouson sleeves and a trim around the cuff, hemline and front edge. Towards the top two buttons fasten the coat. The second jacket is a swagger coat with pockets. There is a trim around the neckline, cuff and the top of the pocket. The coat is front fastening with a button and loop fastening. The wearer has a hand in the pocket. A buckled belt can be seen under the swagger jacket. Both women have their hair in ringlets.

The Misses Mackay of Duncan Street, Edinburgh. The address belongs to Mrs Duncan MacKay and these are probably her daughters. Mr Doull also took portraits of Mrs Mackay.
David Doull was a professional photographer at 72 Lauriston Place from 1865 - 1867. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831 and was one of the founder members of the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. In 1970 Edinburgh Public Libraries purchased Mr Doull's collection of 319 glass negatives from Mr Frank Seymour, one in a chain of successors to Mr Doull's shop at Lauriston Place.
