Description
Portrait photograph of Miss Watson who is standing. She is wearing Victorian costume consisting of a full length day dress with a frilled decoration at the bust, shoulder, upper sleeve and around the cuffs and the lower part of the dress. She wears a broach at the throat, drop earrings and a broad belt. Her hair is in a tight tied back hairstyle. She stands with her hand on a carved writing desk. A book is on the lid of the desk. The piece of furniture has ornate carving and five drawers. Part of a chair is visible next to the desk.

Miss Watson of Antiqua Street, Edinburgh. The address belonged to Mrs John Watson and George H Watson, teacher of writing, arithmetic and book keeping at 36 George Street. Mr Doull also took a portrait of George H Watson, they are probably Mrs John Watson's children.
David Doull was a professional photographer at 72 Lauriston Place from 1865 - 1867. He was born in Edinburgh in 1831 and was one of the founder members of the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1861. In 1970 Edinburgh Public Libraries purchased Mr Doull's collection of 319 glass negatives from Mr Frank Seymour, one in a chain of successors to Mr Doull's shop at Lauriston Place.
