This image has been chosen for the Edinburgh - Past and Present Exhibition by the Rt. Rev. Brian Smith, Bishop of Edinburgh - "Edinburgh is a city of spectacle - processions, fireworks, and festivals. Life in Edinburgh was always colourful, and it continues to grow in this regard. And in my own spiritual landscape there is our Cathedral where I was baptised, confirmed and later installed as bishop. This picture captures both themes" The Rt. Rev. Brian Smith.
Princes Street is one of the main thoroughfares and shopping areas in Edinburgh. It was created as part of James Craig's New Town development and named in honour of George III's sons. With the exception of St John's Church there is no building on the southern side of Princes Street, allowing spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle and Old Town.
