Description
Edinburgh Castle is the background for this busy street scene in the Grassmarket. On either side of a road are houses and shops. One of the shopfronts has trousers and jackets on display in its window. A table is in front of this and a broom leans against the wall. Some men and women carry sacks and others baskets on their backs. Bales loaded onto carts are ready to be moved. A horse-drawn cart is being lead by a man. On the road beside them are the tracks from other carts. A man is climbing some stairs into a building. Along the side of the steps is a wooden handrail. A man on horse-back surveys the scene.
