Cranes tower above the construction site on Greenside Place. There are portacabins infront of the scaffolding supporting the facade of Lady Glenorchy's Church. Observatory House and Dugald Stewart's Monument can be seen on Calton Hill.

Leith Street is a short street in Edinburgh which runs downhill from the east end of Princes Street towards Leith.

The Greenside area of Edinburgh, immediately to the west of Calton Hill, changed substantially during the second half of the 20th century and the early years of the 21st century. Tall, 19th century tenement buildings were demolished in the 1960's as part of Edinburgh's slum clearances. The Omni Centre, comprising a 12 screen cinema, hotel, bars, restaurants and a fitness centre was opened on the site in 2002.
