This image has been chosen for the Edinburgh - Past and Present Exhibition by David McLetchie, MSP - "This building almost surreal as the many works of art and sculpture which it houses. I am a frequent visitor to the gallery and love the works for which it is a permanent home as well as the many fascinating exhibitions it has hosted" David McLetchie.
This photograph shows the Dean Orphan Hospital which was converted in 1999 into the Dean Gallery.
The Dean Galley is situated immediately to the north-east of Belford Bridge in Edinburgh. The building was designed by Thomas Hamilton as an orphanage and completed in 1833. In the late 1990's the building was converted into a gallery by Terry Farrell and Partners to house the Gallery of Modern Art's collection of Dadaist and Surrealist art. The gallery also holds a large collection of sculpture by the Leith born Eduardo Paolozzi.
