The accompanying descriptive text in the volume begins as follows:
'This interesting old house, the property of R. A. Macfie, Esq., of Dreghorn, is situated in the parish of Colinton, Midlothian. It is about half-a-mile from the village of Colinton, on the left bank of the Braid Burn, which here has the name of Redford Burn, just below the picturesque bridge built by Mr Alexander Trotter, who acquired the estate of Redford early in this century and added it to Dreghorn. By whom and at what point the house was built is unknown.'
The full text may be viewed from the volume which is held at the Edinburgh and Scottish Collection in Edinburgh Central Library.
