The Wester Hailes Health Project and five other community Mental Health Projects were set up in the 1980s to tackle specific health needs within the local community. In 1997 there were substantial reductions in Urban Programme Funding. This led to a restructuring of community service out of which the Health Agency emerged in January 1998. Within the Agency there are ten directors from the Wester Hailes area and six advisory representatives of existing Boards.
