This photograph is taken in the garden of the old Dove Centre at Hailesland Place which has since been demolished. Many of the Dove Centre Committee members are shown, including Stan Taylor, Bob Brooksbank, Betty Glasgow, Jim Stevenson, and Hilda Stevenson.
The Dove Centre was established in approximately 1990 and is a dedicated centre for the over 50s living in the Wester Hailes area. In 1997 the Wester Hailes Partnership responded to a significant reduction in the Urban Programme Fund and it was anticipated that the Dove Centre would be merged with the new Social Welfare Agency, Community Help and Advice Initiative (CHAI). However, the Centre withdrew from the proposed arrangement and has remained as an independent body since. Over the years the Centre has successfully secured funding from a number of trusts and other funding sources. Volunteers continue to have a major role in the running of the centre.
