Description

The view along the wide cobbled road of Mayfield Gardens, Edinburgh. The houses on each side stand behind walls and many have trees in the gardens. Ornate lampposts can be seen at the side of the road as a variety of horse drawn transport travels down the street. A lady in a long dress and short cloak is walking on the pavement. A man is standing on a set of ladders painting a fence.

Mayfield Gardens is a section of the A701 which runs south out of Edinburgh. This section continues south from Minto Street. Newington railway station was located at the southern end of this short stretch of road. The railway station was closed in 1964.
