Description

Across a wet playground is part of Dumbryden school in Wester Hailes. Its flat roof is protected on one side with barbed wire and all the windows and doors are blocked to prevent entry. Metal stumps remain in the playground in the distance. There is a metal fence separating the site from a large portacabin on the left. There are red and blue rectangular outlines on the wet playground and on the far right there are circular dots in yellow and blue.

Dumbryden Primary School was opened in 1963. There were nine classrooms. In addition the school had an infant and upper school hall, music room, infant and upper school library, resource base, an information technology suite, dining room and a large playground. There was also a nursery.
In 2004 the council considered the falling rolls across the city and voted to close Dumbryden Primary and the nearby Hailesland Primary and united the pupils in a new school at Canal View. There was local unhappiness at the decision.
Inspite of boarding up windows there were still incidences of vandalism and fire raising. In 2010 the school was finally demolished.
Prospect Housing Association bought the land and plan to build housing on the site.
