Wester Hailes Shopping Centre was opened in 1974. This was designed to meet the needs of the local community. In 1978 a Job Centre was opened inside the shopping centre. This photograph was taken prior to the £9 million redevelopment of the centre which started in 1994 and included an extensive refurbishment of the existing building, and a new cinema complex, bingo hall and library.
