Description

There is paved and stepped access to the entrance of the plaza shopping centre. Near to the doorway is a tall column with a stone base and a grooved panel at the top. Running parallel to the shops are a row of trees and street lights. Bicycle stands are near the base of the tree on on the right of the picture.

Wester Hailes Shopping Centre was opened in 1974. This was designed to meet the needs of the local community. In 1978 a Job Centre was opened inside the shopping centre. A £9 million redevelopment of the centre was undertaken in 1994 which included an extensive refurbishment of the existing building, and a new cinema complex, bingo hall and library.
