Description

The Royal Scottish Academy is the central focus for this image but several other Edinburgh landmarks feature. Directly behind the gallery is the National Gallery of Scotland and to the side of these galleries are the lawns and paths of Princes Street Gardens. Along the thoroughfare of Princes Street canopies cover shop windows and a line of horses and carriages share the road with other types of vehicles.

Princes Street is one of the main thoroughfares and shopping areas in Edinburgh. It was created as part of James Craig's New Town development and named in honour of George III's sons. With the exception of St John's Church there is no building on the southern side of Princes Street, allowing spectacular views of Edinburgh Castle and Old Town.
