Excerpt from page "Broughton Place 1808 -Broughton Place is to be 86 feet wide to open into Broughton Street on the west - and is to accommodate by the east through Gayfield Square with the road to Leith. It is also to have direct communication to Forth Street (now named Hart Street) by a street 60 feet wide " E.E.C Jan 9 1808.
