Description
Accompanying text reads:
"The nucleus of the mass of ruins in the drawing is a bastion of the old chateau of Soyecourt, a village through which the front German and Allied lines ran at the opening of the Battle of the Somme. At the top of the pile may be noticed an artillery observation post. The security of the quarters for troops in the cellarage is guaranteed by the mass of debris above and by the presence of a second exit in case the first should be blocked by the explosion of an enemy shell."
