Excerpt from page " Maitland Street 1808 - On Monday the foundation stone of the east corner house in Maitland Street was laid by Captain Maitland Gibson of Clifton Hall.
The public are highly indebted to this gentleman for the carrying into execution the plan of this elegant street as it forms a most commodious entrance in to the New Town from the west country". Edinburgh Evening Courant March 10th 1808.
