Newhaven fishwife with her daughters
Photograph of a Newhaven fishwife and her two young daughters. She wears the traditional fishwife 'gala' dress of striped petticoats, a patterned blouse or 'shor' goon' with turned up sleeves, and a shawl pinned across her body. Her two daughters wear white cotton frilled pinafores over knee-length dresses with long sleeves. They are standing in front of a house with steps leading to the front door.
