A policeman stops the traffic on the Lawnmarket in the Royal Mile to allow a parade of soldiers in ceremonial dress on horse back to pass. The soldiers wear plumed helmets. People watch the parade from windows in the surrounding tenements.

Lawnmarket is the section of Edinburgh's Royal Mile running from its junction with Johnston Terrace to where it meets George IV Bridge. Regular markets were held in this area until the late 18th century.
