A rural scene at Groathill, Edinburgh. A series of farm buildings sits surrounded by fields. The roofs are pantile and thatched. Two women can be seen going in opposite directions outside the cottage whilst a row of geese makes their way towards the house.

The site of Craigleith Quarry is situated about 2 miles north-west of the centre of Edinburgh. The Quarry operated from the 17th century and provided much of the sandstone for the construction of New Town. It was filled in the 1930's and is now the site of Craigleith Retail Park.
