The Waverley Market, designed by Robert Morham, was built in 1872 to house the fruit and vegetable market. However, due to other uses of the Waverley Market the sale of fruit and vegetables returned to Market Street. The market was lit by huge skylights among the formal gardens on the roof.
Princes Street is one of the main thoroughfares in Edinburgh. It is notable in that there are no buildings on its southern side. Princes Street gardens now occupy the space on the southern side. The gardens are a result of the draining of the Nor' Loch which used to be the principal feature.
