Biography
One of the Scottish Colourists, who all spent much of their life outside of Scotland. As a boy, his family moved to San Francisco where his work for his first exhibition was destroyed in the earthquake of 1906. Moving back to Scotland, his concentration on single themes brought fresh impetus and success. Best known for his vibrant still life paintings and Scottish and French landscapes.
