Description
A street of tenement housing has been festooned with flags and bunting to mark a royal visit. Bunting stretches across the road and hangs from windows. A cart and a bicycle are parked in front of a shop front which is covered in decorations. There are many children playing in the street. One girl carries a dog as she crosses the street and a young boy pushes a wheel down the road.

George VI was crowned in May 1937 following the abdication of his brother Edward VIII in 1936. In July 1937 he came to Edinburgh with Queen Elizabeth and their daughters on his first state visit to Scotland. The programme of events included the presentation of keys to the city to their majesties, state processions, a rain-soaked garden party, a Scottish Youth Rally and firework displays.
