Appearance of the ruins on the eastern side of the Parliament Square the instant after the mines were sprung at noon on Saturday 20th November 1824
Description
The ruins of a derelict building are demolished with the aid of mines in the middle of a city scene. A man stands at the base of the demolition, holding up his hat, while cables and wire run around the rubble and debris throughout the square.

The Great Fire of 1824 broke out in Old Assembly Close. It burnt for four days, destroying two tenements and the Tron Kirk. It killed 11 residents and two firemen from the recently formed Edinburgh Fire Engine Establishment. Four hundred people were left homeless.
