Title
The landing of King George IV at Leith, August 15th 1822
Description
Crowds of people line the quayside in Leith, Edinburgh. They lean out of windows and stand on rooftops to watch the flotilla of small boats, greeting King George IV, whose royal standard is borne by the boat in the centre of the picture. In the background, the bridge has been raised to allow the sailing ships to enter the inner harbour. In the distance a beacon burns on Arthur's Seat. To the left, Leith Customs House, the Britannia Tavern and pottery chimneys can be seen.
