Description

Furniture for sale is laid out on the street around Menelaws' Shop on Lauriston Street, Edinburgh. Two boys inspect some chairs and a couple are standing outside the shop. There is a row of houses with dormer windows. One building has large arched windows and an impressive façade with balustrade parapet. Pedestrians walk along the street, including a family wearing straw hats. A horse and cart is making its way up the road. A boy leans out of one of the windows.

Lauriston Street connects Lauriston Place and the West Port.

The building with the arched windows and balustrade parapet was the site of a cattle market, and was redesigned as the Blue Halls cinema in 1930. It was completely demolished in the 1950s.
