Description

A policeman stands in the road between Nicolson Street, West Crosscauseway and St Patrick Street in Edinburgh. Behind the policeman is a horse and cart and in front of him is a lamp-post. Along the pavement are tenement buildings and shops, in one shop window there are advertising posters.

Nicolson Street is a section of the A7 which runs from the east end of Princes Street south-east out of Edinburgh. The Nicolson Street section follows on from South Bridge, passing Surgeons' Hall.

Now divided into East and West Crosscauseway the streets branch east and west from Nicolson Street, connecting it to Richmond Place to the east and Chapel Street to the west. The name is an anglicised version of the older 'Crosscausey'.
