This tall yellow wooden chair has a bold, eye-catching colour. It’s height would have meant anyone using it would have been perched above the crowds, giving them a good view of the busy goings on.
Newhaven Fishmarket opened in 1868 and was a focal point in the village’s important fishing industry. Hundreds of people early each morning would have gathered to buy, sell and haggle fish, a riot of noise and activity/enterprise. With little of that industry now left in the area, the chipped paint, sticker remnants and general wear and tear on this chair reminds us of what once was.
