The Grade B listed building, stands empty in the middle of redevelopment works to turn this former stable block within the Powderhall Refuse Depot into flexible workspace and artist studios. It is part of the wider regeneration of the Powderhall area.
According to Historic Environment Scotland records on
Canmore
:
"This works was built in 1893 for Edinburgh Corporation, and designed by the City Engineer, John Cooper. It was built as a refuse destructor, with associated depot for refuse vehicles and the horses to pull them. In 1971 it had a modern destructor behind the Baronial front block."
