One blue silk banner for the Hammermen of Leith
Description
One blue silk banner for the Hammermen of Leith. with painted decoration on both sides in mirror image. The title scroll cartouche reads, 'OUR ART OVER ALL'. The vignette in the upper right corner features the coat of arms of Leith, and the motto, 'SIGILLUM OPPIDI DE LEITH 1565'. The motto scroll reads, 'BY HAMMER AND HAND ALL ARTS DOTH STAND'. The centre panel features a shield with three crowned hammers and a white chevron, with two supporters to the left, Justice, in blue smock, holding sword and scales, to right, and Hope, in white dress with an anchor, as a crest rising from a red and white wreath. There is a phoenix and helm below.
