This flag was probably one of a pair made in 1819 from a design by Mr.Lawson, for a total cost of one pound thirteen shillings. These standards were consecrated on October 25, 1819 (the anniversary of St. Crispin). The motto translates as 'Love of king and country Leads'. The Royal St. Crispin Society was founded in June 1817 and dissolved in 1851. The society was a friendly society constituted 'with the sole object of affording sick, annuity and funeral allowances to its members', who were mainly shoemakers.
