"Hit harder and skate faster"
Flat track roller derby is a high-octane contact team sport that requires speed, strategy, and athleticism. The
rules
can seem complicated to the uninitiated, but the energy and commitment from the players is palpable.
Auld Reekie Roller Girls is a not-for-profit, grassroots, flat track roller derby team based in Edinburgh. They were founded in 2008 and their first public game took place in January 2009 at Meadowbank Sports Centre. ARRG now has over 100 members and two travelling teams who have competed with some of the best teams from across Europe (and beyond).
We were honoured to be permitted to attend one of their training sessions, getting close to the action to capture this exciting new movement in Edinburgh's sporting world.
Visit the
ARRG
website to find out more about the team and the passionate individuals known collectively as the Auld Reekie Roller Girls.
