Stockaree: Stockbridge in Photographs looks back over 100 years of one of Edinburgh's best loved districts. Photographs from 1880 to the 1960s detail the people and places that make up its history. Images include the iconic Stockbridge Market and the Falshaw Bridge as well as the shopping and residential streets that make up this village in the town.
Originally a separate village, Stockbridge is now a largely residential area situated a mile north of Edinburgh Castle. The village developed substantially between 1813, when the famous painter Sir Henry Raeburn began to feu his land in the area for development, and 1850. The architect James Milne conducted much of this development. With its proximity to the Water of Leith and its interesting and diverse architecture, Stockbridge is considered an attractive and popular place to live, shop and socialise.
