Edinburgh's Festivals are an extremely important aspect of the city's culture and the city centre has become an internationally recognised venue and backdrop for events. Since 1947 the city centre has hosted the world famous Edinburgh International Festival which has been a showcase for the city's heritage and cultural dynamism. Additional festivals include the Festival fringe, Book, Film, Jazz, and Science Festivals and, not least, the celebrations at Hogmanay.
