Biography

John Patrick was born in Buckhaven, Fife, in 1831. He worked initially as a baker, and later a bookseller in Leven before opening his first photographic studio in the town in 1866. He moved to Kirkcaldy in the following year, and then to Edinburgh in the mid 1880's. His photographic studio on Comiston Road, Morningside, is listed in the Edinburgh and Leith Trade Directories from 1887, but seems to have been established before this. The business had a branch in Kirkcaldy from 1890. He retired in 1912, and passed away at his daughter's house in Kennoway in 1923.
