The original Nisbet of Dirleton's House was built in 1624 for Sir John Nisbet, Lord Dirleton, a Judge of the Court of Session and famous anti-Covenanter. It was rebuilt by Robert Hurd in 1954, incorporating some original stonework and the original inscribed lintels above the entrance door, and also including features of the original such as the recessed stairtower, the projecting oriel on the left, crowstep gables, rubble stonework and sash and case windows.
