Corporal Thomas Peck Hunter, a Royal Marine during World War II, was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross for offering himself as a target to save his troop and demoralising the enemy during an attack at Lake Comacchio, Italy, in 1945. He was born in Aldershot in 1923 but moved to Edinburgh shortly afterwards.
The memorial was unveiled on 15 June 2002.
