Shakspeare [Shakespeare]. Two Gentlemen of Verona, Act V, Scene III
Description
SILVIA: O heaven!
PROTEUS: I'll force thee yield to my desire.
VALENTINE: Ruffian, let go that rude uncivil touch,/ Thou friend of an ill fashion!

A very dramatic scene illustrated by Angelica Kauffman. It depicts Proteus trying to force himself on Silvia, and Valentine stepping in to save the lady. Meanwhile Julia, dressed as a page boy, watches. The two men claim to be best friends, but to Proteus all is forgotten once he sees Silvia. But Silvia and Valentine love each other, and Julia loves Proteus despite all he has done. In the illustration Silvia is clearly distressed and tries to push Proteus away. Valentine forces his friend to let her go, and Proteus’s face already shows repentance. On the right, Julia looks at the man she loves in sadness.
