Title
Page thirty-nine from 'Flora's Feast', the Chrysanthemums
Description
Two women wearing elaborate historical costumes, in yellow and pink, stand holding chrysanthemums. They cast their regal gaze over around the rest of the garden. The accompanying text reads:
"Where still in triumph, stiff with gold,
The rich Chrysanthemums unfold".

The most striking aspect of this illustration are the historical costumes worn by the Chrysanthemums. These refer back to the early modern period and incorporate the petals of the flower into a high flaring collar that would have acted as a status symbol at the time.
