About the artist
Name
Kano, Kazunobu
Biography
Kano Kazunobu trained with a Kano-school artist and specialized in paintings on Buddhist themes. However, his idiosyncratic approach to subject matter, motifs and lighting have led to his being classified as an 'eccentric painter'. His best-known work is the set of 100 large hanging scrolls representing the 500 arhats, in Zojoji temple, Tokyo.
In Japanese culture a person's family name comes first, so this artist's name is written Kano Kazunobu.
